Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA)
Since 1954, fire fighters across the country have collected critical funds in the community – one dollar at a time – as part of the Fill the Boot program to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The partnership between MDA and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) began when the IAFF signed a proclamation designating MDA as its charity of choice, vowing to continue raising awareness and funds to ensure effective treatments and therapies are found. The dollars raised through Fill the Boot fund MDA’s mission of empowering people living with neuromuscular disease to live longer, more independent lives.

The Realtors:
Contribute 1% of sales price – This is almost always higher than 1% of the loan amount, but never lower than 1% of the loan amount. The loan amount is the sales price, minus the down payment, so the sales price should always be higher, unless they are putting $0 down payment (i.e. a VA loan). In the latter example, the sales price and loan amount should be the same.
The mortgage company:
Contributes .5% of loan amount
Waives any processing, underwriting, and origination fees (about $1,700)
Covers the death benefit
Between both, the firefighters are getting a minimum of 1.5% (average should be about $9,000 based on price of home and down payment) plus $1,700, plus the death benefit. In the case that they only use one side, (i.e. the realtor and not the mortgage company or vice-versa,) then they would only receive the benefit of that side and not the other.
The realtors and the mortgage company cover all other costs associated with the program, such as marketing materials, dedicated website, dedicated phone lines, CRM software, reporting, etc.
